The 1:50k Water Framework Directive (WFD) Groundwater bodies is a polygon dataset. The Article 2, clause 2 of the WFD defines the groundwater bodies as '…all water which is below the surface of the ground in the saturation zone and in direct contact with the ground or subsoil'.

The groundwater body quality status indicates the quality of water present in each individual groundwater bodies and is defined by both a chemical status and a trend assessment.
